We have decided to begin a blog to share our adventures. Our first post begins with our honeymoon, which was in Argentina.
Day 1:
3:30am- wake up call for airport
9am - "emergency" on the plane, Jay called on for his expertise to help a hung over young adult remain in his seat instead of passing out and disturbing elderly passengers.
11:30pm- arrive in Buenos Aires airport for a quick nap
Day 2: Trip to Iguassu Falls
After an early wake up, we fly to the northernmost part of Argentina, Iguassu, bordering Brazil and Uruguay. Our hotel is gorgeous!!
2:30pm- attempt to visit the Brazilian side of the falls, however our trip organizer did not inform us of the required $130 visa to enter for a 4 hour excursion...therefor we spent the afternoon walking around in the rain and trying out Quilmes beer and Malbec wine.
Day 3: Trip to SEE Iguassu Falls
How to even begin describing the power and beauty of these falls is daunting- so enjoy the photos and video.
Now Check out the experience in the boat!!
Day 4: Depart to El Calafate
While our luggage got lost for a few hours, we were able to continue our tasting of the famous Carne and Lamb. We also made sure to drink at least one bottle of wine with every meal.
Day 5: Tour of the Glaciers in Calafate
We were on a boat this whole day getting different views of all the glaciers.
We met some very fun people on the boat-
Where's Rachel?
Day 6: Hiking on Perito Moreno Glacier
This was awesome. We spent 5 hours walking on the glacier with a guide, the pictures say it all.
For those who watch Its always Sunny... Charlie??
Day 7: Depart to Ushuaia- "THE END OF THE WORLD"
While the surrounding areas are amazing, the city is pretty grim, and smells like rotting fish- King Crab!
The City at 9:30pm.. amazing
We met some fun girls from Belgium on the trip
And scary coats...
Day 8: 4x4 excursion to Lake District
The lesson of the day: Beavers, beavers, everywhere- destroying everything.
Day 9: Excursion to the Tierra Del Fuego then Boat Excursion
Prison Train ride from hell at 5 mph, then some good walking.
Jay's awesome story for this day:
Jay- OMG
Rachel- what's wrong?
J- Look! (Holding out his hand)
R- What's wrong?
J- My RING!!!!
R and J begin a search through every article of clothing, and begin retracing steps... then as put on their detective glasses and sort through recent photos and videos. (begin awesome action movie music)-It is determined that ring was lost somewhere between Lunch and Dinner. Did it happen on our boat excursion to see Sea Lions? Or Did it happen at the fabulous Casino where we lost $25??
J checks the backpack and finds the ring at the bottom. No idea when or how, but our marriage was saved.
Day 10: Return to Buenos Aires
Just in time to see a Tango show + drumming + "indigenous flute" + ball swinging + Russian dancing with a McDonald's appetizer.
Day 11: Family Day!
Thanks to the amazing work of Glen Strauss, we were able to visit several cousins on our last full day. First, our cousin Alberto picked us up and gave us the "family guided tour" of important landmarks. More meat, shopping, and old buildings.
Then We were able to join up with cousins from a different side of the family for an all night meal. Empanadas, dulce de leche, and great company. It was an incredible experience getting to make connections with relatives in this country.
Day 12: Buenos Aires Tour
Highlights- 1. The Malba museum of contemporary art
2. A Famous Cemetery
3. Antique shopping
630pm- flight back to US
